Peessa Ella

Across the Kurukkan Oya which starts from Madolsima area. This beautiful waterfall is created by a waterfall falling down a steep slope of the Lunugala mountain range. This waterfall is about 45 meters high.Peesa Falls was also known as Morahela Falls in the early days

Peesa Falls was also known as Morahela Falls in the early days. It is said that the road to the cave was paved with large stones by the giants who lived there. Access to the cave is a bit difficult and it is advisable to be careful while walking on slippery rocks.

There is a legend about this waterfall : If you go here you can see that there is a rock cave in the rock behind the stream of this waterfall. Did you know that this place which is considered as a historically important place is said to be related to the days of King Pandukabhaya before. The caves were first reported in a series of letters engraved on a rock at Mount Gabbaru. It is also mentioned that King Pandukabhaya was the first to have the good fortune to enter this cave.

This is how the waterfall goes : To reach this waterfall you have to travel on the Badulla - Bibila main road. The nearest cities are Passara and Lunugala. After passing Passara town you have to travel about 10 km towards Bibila and you can see a name plate at Peesa Ella on the south side.
