Kohonawala: A Hidden Village That Gets About 6 Hours Of Sunlight

Description

Kohonawala village is located just beyond the Passara Madulsima mountain range in the Badulla District. Sunlight is available only for about 6 hours between 9 am and 3 pm. This is because the whole village is surrounded by mountains. This is why this village is so special.

The villagers say that the history of Koholana, which runs through several legends, dates back to the days of King Walagamba. Konara, a minister of the king, came to this village after the defeat of the war and his descendants are known as Ranpath Mudiyanselage. The history of this village is very interesting. Accordingly, the descendants of Ranpathmudiyanse, the warriors who supported the battle during the 1818 uprising, are thus hidden in this village.

The village is made up of villagers who lead a beautiful and self-sufficient life. All 45 families living in the village make a living by semi-farming and crop cultivation.

Route: From Badulla you can reach Kohona via Uruvithenna via Kahataruppa road and on the other hand by crossing Loggal Oya pass.

The experience of this village is fascinating for a tourist but not for those who live in that village. It's okay to go here and come back safely without destroying the environment
