Description

The Temple of the Tooth is the present temple is the place where the relics of the Lord Buddha are placed. It is located in the Kandy District of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was first built by King Wimaladharmasuriya. The present two-storied building was constructed by King Sri Parakrama Narendrasinghe. It is said that even the later Tamil Nayak kings improved the palace.

In 1988, the Temple of the Tooth was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It has won the tourist attraction of local as well as foreign tourists.

History: History has it that this was destroyed by the Portuguese invaders.
