Maragala Kanda

Maragala Kanda

Description

Maragala Kanda is a very hot city. Maragala Kanda, which is dragged behind the orphanage by the mist, is a place that challenges that dryness. Maragala Kanda can be identified as the highest mountain in the Monaragala District. Maragala Kanda is about 2500 feet high and has a cold climate. Due to this a plantation company called Geelon was started here during the British rule and tea was cultivated. Today it is a rubber plantation.

More than 10 km long, the mountain range is densely forested and inhabited. Mountains such as Sita Kanda, Galabedda Kanda, Ethgala and Habaratthagala can be seen there. The water supply to Monaragala town as well as Galabada Arawa and Obbegoda villages is provided by a reservoir built across the waterways and its natural springs.

Route: When you go along the Pola Road to the south near the Monaragala Clock Tower you will find the road leading to the Geelong Estate. 8m You can reach the top of the hill by following a difficult route in a vehicle and walking a short distance. This hill can also be reached by passing near Weliyaya Junior School which is 4 km away from Moneragala. Maragala Kanda can also be reached from Galabada Arawa area and Obbegoda area.

At the bottom of the hill you can see a beautiful view of Uva Province. Although it is very difficult to climb Maragala Kanda, it is possible to have a more beautiful and spectacular experience. The southern slope of the mountain is very cold and infested with leeches. Although Monaragala is an extremely dry region, many of these features can be found around Maragala Kanda, which amazes even environmental. Many of the plants found in the Maragala Kanda Sinharaja forest can be seen.

Special remark:
  • If you are going to Maragala Kanda, it would be a great help to set up a cab or a three wheeler depending on the size of the road from Moneragala to Maragala Kanda.
  • Also, be sure to add a guide because guns are tied to the mountain for animals, and on the one hand, the Maragala Kanda is called Maragala because of the gun case.
  • If you can really spend a night on Maragala Kanda, it's great because it's a place where you can look forward to a billion stars at night and take a photo of the Milky Way or the Milky Way.
