Medirigiriya Vatadageya

When you think of Polonnaruwa, you are reminded of the vast lakes and ancient ruins that overwhelm the ocean. The most famous of the ruins in the Polonnaruwa district is the Kingdom Ruins and the Stone Temple near Polonnaruwa. But the most spectacular Vatadage in Sri Lanka, located at Medirigiriya, a short distance from Polonnaruwa, is hardly worth visiting by local and foreign tourists visiting Polonnaruwa. One reason for this is its proximity to the city.

So today we are going to talk about the most unknown but the most beautiful Vatadage in Sri Lanka. If you are thinking of going to Polonnaruwa soon, don't forget to visit the Vatadage which is a short distance away but you can also visit the Medirigiriya and see the Vatadage which showcases the skills of the Sri Lankan carpenter. The Vatadage is located about 3.5 km from Medirigiriya town on the way to Ambagaswewa.

A beautiful house built around a small temple was known as a relic at that time. But today the relics are practiced under the name of Vatadage. Only one temple can be seen in the relics of the Hattikuchchi Vihara in the Anuradhapura District, which is one of the earliest relics in Sri Lanka.

In addition to the temple complex, some sources state that there was a high level hospital with advanced technology. In addition to the Vatadage, you can also see the stone ponds and the stupa of the Pichcha Mal Vihara Pilimage around the temple complex.

Route:On the Trincomalee-Colombo road turn off at the Habarana junction and head towards Polonnaruwa to reach Hingurakgoda from the Minneriya junction. Then travel 14 km from Hingurakgoda to Medirigiriya town. If you are coming from Polonnaruwa town, you can travel 14 km from Polonnaruwa via Hatamuna road to Hingurakgoda and then reach Medirigiriya.
