Description

Kande viharaya is a major Buddhist temple in Kalutara district, Sri lanka. The temple has got its name " Kanda vihara" as it built on top of a hill located near to Aluthgama town. The Temple has been formally recognized by the government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka. This is a very attractive place. Many people come and worship there. We worship and we go there with flowers and fruits and dress in white dresses.

A temple dating from the 1700s, the Kande viharaya is a great place to globble up some history while observing local life. A pioneer centre for Buddhist education in Sri Lanka, Kande viharaya has a number of ancient scrulptures, statues and colorful frescoes dating back to the Kandyan era. Kande viharaya is a perfect place of worship complete with all the essential components of a Buddhist temple and receives veneration of people both home and abroad, This sacred place was found by venerable Karapagala Dewamitta Thero in about 1734.
