Description

Rawana Falls is the nearest waterfall to the Ella town. Rawana Falls is located at a height of 25 meters above the Ella Wildlife Sanctuary. This is a beautiful waterfall that is very popular among many local and foreign tourists with its three floors.

As the Rawana Falls is located on the Ella- Wellawaya main road, many travelers do not forget to stop and rest at this place for a moment.

Rawana Falls is very scary on rainy days. Rawana Falls is said that Ravana Falls resembles an areca flower with drying petals during heavy rains. In dry seasons it does not appear so and flows very quietly.

Rawana Falls has three sections and can only be reached from the lower part and the middle part of the waterfall. Going to the top is very difficult, it's scary. Going to the top is never recommended. Climbing to the middle of the waterfall and bathing should be done very carefully.

The lower part of the Rawana Falls is best suited for bathing. At the bottom of the Rawana Falls is a fairly large natural swimming pool where you can easily take a dip and swim, and play water sports. Another small pool to the side. It is best suited for bathing children and women. It is suitable for bathing only when the water is low.

Considering the legend of Ravana Falls, it is named after King Ravana who ruled Sri Lanka at that time. It is said that King Ravana has abducted Princess Sita and hid her in a cave behind the Ravana Falls, which later became known as the Ravana Cave.History has it that Princess Sita took a bath in a pool where the water of this waterfall was collected.

From Ella town you can easily reach Ravana Falls by walking, bus or tuk tuk.
