The Aukana Buddha Statue is located facing the Kalawewa in the Avukana village west of the Kalawewa in the Anuradhapura District of the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. There are five largest standing Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. The Avukana Buddha Statue is one of them.
In many parts of the island, instead of the tank and the dagoba, the tank and the Buddha statue can be seen. The Dagaba or the Buddha statue symbolizes the spiritual progress of the people and the worldly progress of the lake. This Avukana Buddha Statue and its statue house belong to the 8th century. The height of the Avukana Buddha Statue from the lotus seat to the head is 11.36 meters.
