Wilpattu National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Sri Lanka, covers an area of 131,500 hectares. Wilpattu National Park stretches from the northwest coast towards the ancient capital of Anuradhapura. Spread across the border between the North-Western and North Central Provinces, Wilpattu is one of the oldest and most important protected areas in the country.
The western part of the Wilpattu National Park is made up of bright copper loam soils which is also a characteristic of Wilpattu National Park.
