Moon Plains: Sandathenna - Nuwara Eliya

Description

Moon Plains is another beautiful place unknown to most people coming to Nuwara Eliya. Recently opened in Nuwara Eliya Place, this is one of the top tourist attractions.

The main attraction here is the 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains and cities, as well as the small end of the world. It is a vast open area where cattle, buffaloes and deer can be seen, of which more than 100 species have been recorded, 16 of which are endemic to Sri Lanka. Nine mountains of Sri Lanka can be clearly seen from the top of the Moon Plains.

Route : It is about 3km from Nuwara Eliya town and once you reach the Sadathenna office, you have to book a safari jeep to go to Sada Tenna plain. After that it costs around Rs. 2000 for a jeep which takes about 45 minutes and can accommodate a group of 5-7 people.

Most people think of Nuwara Eliya as either cold, high mountains, tea estates or strawberries. But this moon plain is famous for its potato cultivation.

The journey to the moon plain is beautiful because the journey is along a beautiful road where you can see the surroundings. This is also a bit like a safari trip. The road continues to be flat so you can see a beautiful view from a long distance. It's better to go in a jeep. The green grass had a strange beauty, and the cool breeze had a strange sweetness. The air is so clear that the whole surroundings look good.

The best place to look around is a viewing platform built on a small high valley. The place to take 360 degree pictures. A place where you can see 9 mountains around on clear days
