The Minneriya National Park is located 15.8 km from the village of Minneriya, a small village 6 km east of the village of Habarana in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Polonnaruwa District. It is famous for its elephant corridor connecting Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla National Park, and Wasgamuwa National Park.
Although Mineria Reservoir is a rainwater reservoir, it is flooded only during the rainy season, but due to the dry weather from July to October, many elephants and other wildlife come to the reservoir. Due to the dry weather prevailing from July to October, the water bodies in the surrounding areas have dried up. Due to this, a large number of elephants gather at the Mineriya Reservoir from July to October, creating a spectacular view.
