Knuckles Forest Reserve is a natural forest reserve covering Kandy and Matale districts. Ecosystem free from human habitation is also the birthplace of many of Sri Lanka's major water sources. Many endemic plant and animal species are found here.
There are 10 main mountains in the Dumbara forest Gombaniya,Knuckles, Dumbanagala,Lakegala, Hell of the Devil,Three pillars
- Route 01 : Reaching the reserve can be done after coming to Lebanon Estate via Wattegama Panvila Hulugaga in Kandy
- Route 02 : Arriving at Bambarella, you can reach Knuckles 5 peaks on one side and Thunhisgala on the other via Ratnapura KMP Wadi
The jungle waterway is a difficult journey through the open air. Be careful of wildlife and do not disturb the activities of the forest. It should be noted that there is also an elephant population in the center of Knuckles.
It must be said that leprosy attacks are common during the journey. Getting rid of wasps is another matter. It is a risky journey as some plants are especially poisonous.
In the past, cardamom cultivation was widespread in the Knuckles Reserve. As cardamom is a highly water-consuming plant, the government has taken steps to ban cardamom cultivation in the Knuckles Reserve.
