Nilaveli beach, which means bright stripe from the moonlight (synonym for the moon "in Tamil"), is a scenic beach in the coastal village of Nilaveli in the Trincomalee District of the Eastern Province. Also known as "Nilwella" in Sinhala, this wide beach is lined with large palm trees. The Nilaveli beach has become a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty, shallow clean sea and biodiversity near Pigeon Island.
