The Nine Arches Bridge is a popular tourist destination located between the Ella and Demodara railway stations in the Demodara area of Ella town in the Badulla District of the Uva Province of Sri Lanka. Due to the architectural excellence of the bridge and the surrounding mountain environment and animals, Nine arch bridge is a popular destination among local and foreign tourists. Therefore, all the tourists who come to Ella town do not forget to visit this place.
Nine arch bridge history: The construction of the bridge is conducted by a local engineer, Mr. P. K. Appuhami consulted with British engineers. The bridge was built during the British rule in 1921. World War I begins while it is being built. The steel stock reserved for the bridge was diverted to the military for war-related projects. If there were steel, the bridge could have been built two or three sides across the valley. Due to the lack of steel, the engineers inserted eight short spans to support the bridge over these nine conical arches. The stone blocks with the cement are the only construction materials used for its construction.

As the name implies, the bridge has more than nine arches on the high walls and runs about 100 feet deep. Nine arch bridge is one of the best examples of colonial railway construction in the country. Emphasizing the depth of the valley, Nine arch bridge is called the "sky bridge".
