The 'Halaba' Bridge across the Uma Oya in the 'Halaba' area of Uvaparanagama connecting the Uva Paranagama Divisional Secretariat and the Haliela Divisional Secretariat was a wonderful creation made during the British rule.
The bridge is constructed entirely of iron and has arches as a bridge for the railways. But nowadays you can see planks instead of sleeping logs.
It is 327 feet long and is finished in three sections of 124 feet each. The first and last sections are 10 feet wide and the middle section is 8 feet wide.
Located at the end of the Uvaparanagama Thuppitiya Grama Niladhari Division, one end of this bridge belongs to Uvaparanagama and the other end belongs to Haliela.
It is said that this bridge which was to be taken to Chilaw and installed was mistakenly taken to Chilaw and installed. Sometimes we are surprised that only this bridge is built here without any road connection.
