Demodara Loop

Demodara Loop is located 912.5m above from the sea level & 8km away from Badulla town. The station has opened in 1923 & it has one side platform. The speciality of the station is its spiral rail line at this location. Demodara Loop is famous as a "Demodara Railway Loop". The rail line passed under itself & moving around the loop & emerging the tunnel. Demodara Loop is moves directly beneath the Demodara station. The loop is like 900m & tunnel is 127m in length. Demodara Loop is known as only loop in the world with railway station situated exactly over a tunnel & spiral loop.

If you visit the uduwara estate/Walasbedda Vantage point when there's a train You can watch this beautiful incident. This place is one of the most beautiful and magnificent structures on the Ella railway line in Sri Lanka. The specialty here is to avoid the inconvenience caused by the steep slope during the construction of the railway line, to go around a mountain range and allow the train to run under the station again. The Sri Lankan engineer was Devapura Jayasena Wimalasurendra. You can easily see how the train is moving by going to the top of the Uduwara estate / walasbedda vantage point waiting for the train to arrive.
